Ross
I, Ross
I, Ross is a play written by Rosamund Gravelle from an original idea and concept from director Emma Copland and actor Shaun Blaney.
Plot Summary
The Thane of Ross from Shakespeare's MacBeth wakes up in a strange hinterland, transported there by unknown forces, and is haunted by other characters from MacBeth forcing Ross to explain his actions and try to assure his conscience in his role in MacBeth's bloody reign.
I, Ross is a play with themes touching on toxic masculinity, how despotic regimes are kept going by the "quiet people" who serve them; it also looks at themes of PTSD and psychosis and how a fractured mind from the trauma of war can allow itself to heal and those that have taken part of atrocities process their understanding of them and their own accountability in them - can forgiveness be found or even given, or an understanding of themselves and why they took part happen.
