Three Queens

The boy-king Edward VI held the throne for only six shaky years after his powerful father's death. Now Edward has died, and the realm is in turmoil with various noble families and figures desperately vying for power and position. Henry VIII's oldest child, Mary, is a devout Catholic, as was her mother. Elizabeth, daughter of Anne Boleyn, is next in the line of succession...as established by Henry. However, Edward named his cousin Lady Jane Grey as his heir. Proclaimed queen but not yet crowned, 17-year-old Jane Grey is deposed by Mary and her supporters.

Now the nine-days queen is due to be executed for treason while Queen Mary fights to return England to the true faith, and Protestant, practical Princess Elizabeth bides her time.

Three queens. One fateful night. Are they playing chess? Or are they pawns in someone else's game?

The GAMUT Theatre, Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, USA produced the American premier of Three Queens from Friday 19th September 2025 until Sunday 21st September 2025 as part of their Stage Door Series
